Grimes drops NFTs, Crypto Fashion emerges from the digital underground, Virtual Concerts on the rise — and its all still just the beginning…

Grimes x Mac NFT Nifty Art Drop

Little did I imagine when logging into my Nifty Gateway account 20 minutes into the Grimes x Mac ‘WarNymph Vol 1 Collection’ drop — that ALL the pieces from this series would already be sold moments prior. Grimes, a musical & visual artist, who intrigues me for the ways she builds and intertwines her virtual avatar with commentary on contemporary culture. For example, this recent collection focuses on the idea of:

“exploring the fluidity of identity in the virtual age: the ability to create, augment, and splinter ourselves into unlimited avatars, create boundless worlds, and build rich, complex lore.” (Nifty Gateway).

It’s particularly this kind discourse and exploration of creative digital identity that keeps me engaged, wanting to take part and savor pieces of her narrative.

This image is a composite of three (out of the eight) NFTs from the WarNymph auction.

This Vol 1 collection mostly composed of metaverse pieces that ranged from $20 — $7,500. Contained also a video animation titled “Battle of the Old” which was held on silent auction and sold for $200,000 (and resold yesterday at $388,938). The $20 digital prints I hoped to acquire are now reselling starting at $4,800… All this to show, both the dramatic value increase of NFTs and speed at which this is all happening. To note, the whole collection itself sold for 6 million in under 20 minutes.

What’s going on with the world of NFTs? Why am I interested in taking part? What makes crypto art exciting? What would I change at NFT marketplaces such as Nifty Gateway and SuperRare?

Stay tuned as I dive deeper into these questions and topics in later posts!

Crypto Fashion Week

Personally feeling extra hyped about this — and it certainly deserves, and will get a whole post of its own. Crypto Fashion Week an event that explored the intersection between fashion, digital art, and blockchain technology.

It was composed of speakers conversing about the innovative trends and visionary talents that are rising from the underground into the mainstream, supported by the increasing presence of crypto currency. The event helped me get a better sense of the emerging creative digital economy, new forms of online engagement, and possibilities and benefits of digital fashion.

Organized by Universe Contemporary in partnership with Non Company, and sponsored by LUKSO.

Post Malone & Pokémon Virtual Concert

I miss live concerts dearly. The realtime audio, collective group energy, dancing next to strangers. That being said, virtual concerts excite me as the possibilities of content are endless. Well, budget depending, but I digress…

Post Malone floating in an underwater bubble through a school of Jellicent at the virtual concert in partnership with Pokémon.

For this event Universal Music Group partnered with Pokémon to celebrate their 25th year with a live-streamed virtual Post Malone concert. The 13 minute show included Malone’s digital avatar floating through a showcase of the vast world of Pokémons. The performance set in delightfully animated and ever-changing environments.

More than anything, I’m curious what my motion graphic friends would say about it — looking at you Joseph Seifert 👀

Interview featuring current motion graphic trends is also on the horizon!
